... from the studio of Scott Adams

My photography encompasses many themes ranging from the natural world to the abstract. (These two themes sometimes merge.)

I particularly enjoy the technical challenge of capturing detailed images of wildflowers in the field, and this is a significant element of my work during the summertime in the central Colorado mountains where I live. My wildflower images are nearly always presented in color because wildflowers contain some of the richest and most vivid colors found in nature. Although a botanist might object, I generally present wildflowers against a black background. The flower’s natural context is thus removed, but the beauty of the flower alone, without other competing or distracting elements, is highlighted.
Not surprisingly given my professional background in geology and geophysics, I also enjoy making  panoramic images of landscapes and images of dramatic skies. Fortunately, both of these subjects exist in abundance in the region where I live.

I shoot digital Raw images in the field and process them in Adobe Photoshop. Many of my images are presented in black and white because I believe that interesting form and texture are too often subordinated by color in an image.

You might guess from my photo that I am also a guitar enthusiast and often play at venues and events around Central Colorado.

I am both a fingerstyle guitar player and amateur guitar builder.

I have built several steel string guitars, including two wood-bodied resonator guitars (one pictured here, and the other a tricone of my own design).

I have also designed and built two electric cigar box guitars and a number of more conventional flat top guitars. (None are for sale.)
